One Florida school district wins Race to the Top-District grant
The Miami-Dade school district, which recently won the Broad Prize for urban school districts, today walked away as Florida's only winner in the Obama administration's latest Race to the Top competition. Five Florida districts were finalists.
The administration put forth $400 million for districts to seek, after having put billions into state grants. Florida already received one of those, in exchange for making several key policy changes including the way it evaluates teachers.
In this round, 16 applicants representing 55 school districts won some funding. Read the USDOE press release for more details.
