One step closer to annual contracts

1

April

Its Republican sponsors called House Bill 7087 a "true repealer," doing little more than eliminating obsolete provisions from Florida law.

Democrats didn't see it so simply, voting nearly unanimously against the proposal that teachers unions vehemently opposed because it would deny current teachers on annual contract the chance to get a professional services contract. Rep. Jim Waldman of Coconut Creek was the only Democrat supporting the bill.

One Republican, Rep. Tom Goodson of Titusville, voted no.

The Senate has no identical bill, but it does have several similar measures to which this idea could be added. Stay tuned.
