One winner down, three to go for Pasco School Board

Upload_633373824322656250 It's no surprise to the Gradebook that Pasco County School Board chairman Allen Altman of Dade City will walk into a second term without competition.

No one filed papers to oppose Altman, a popular insurance salesman and civic activist who also happens to own a bank and lots of property in east Pasco. So by paying the filing fee, he coasts to re-election unopposed. Look for him to start refunding supporters' campaign contributions soon.

As for the other seats up for election, well, there are plenty of office seekers hoping to replace the three departing incumbents. Just four of the people who initially signaled interest in the positions didn't come through, while one late-comer joined the ranks.

In the hunt are:

District 3: Realtor Cynthia Armstrong, developer Mike Ryan, attorney Sallie Skipper and teacher Anthony Terranova

District 4: Real estate agent Alison Crumbley, retired court reporter Billie Kaleel, psychologist Steve Kanakis, hotel manager Karen King and pastor John Tracy

District 5: Teacher George Brazier, retired school administrator Steve Luikart and real estate agent Mark Swartsel

We'll start the reporting in earnest now. If you have questions you want answered by or about any of these candidates, please send them via e-mail to me at
