Online survey asks for input on Pinellas County's final exam exemption
Are you a parent, teacher or student who has strong opinions about whether high school students should be able to exempt their final exams in exchange for good attendance?
The school district wants to hear from you. This evening, the school district is placing automated calls to 4,000 randomly selected parents and educators, asking them to fill out an anonymous six-question survey, posted online today.
District spokeswoman Andrea Zahn said the idea is to get feedback from those who are most informed about the policy, which is expected to change in 2010-11.
School board members are expected to talk about a tightened attendance policy during its workshop Aug. 17. Their plan is to send a message to parents and students about the planned changes in time for the first day of school Aug. 24. But they won't be voting on the actual changes until a second public hearing Sept. 14.
