Palm Beach school bus drivers: "Without us there is no school"
The Palm Beach Post reports this morning that about two dozen school bus drivers left kids waiting by the side of the road, as they didn't show up for work to protest their wages.
"Without us there is no school," said Larry Sussman of Jupiter, one of the drivers who did not show up for work today as part of the "sick out." Sussman estimated that at least 24 or 25 drivers did not show up for work mainly to protest the fact that drivers have not received a raise in seven years. He said the $11.73 per hour he makes now is the same he was paid when he started driving for the school district in 2007.
"Drivers are getting their electricity turned off at their homes. Drivers are losing their homes," Sussman said.
