Pasco announces budget committee to examine future cuts

13

February

Moneycut Pasco schools' financial future doesn't look pretty. After hearing the latest deficit numbers from Tallahassee this week, district budget planners now expect to have to cut yet another $9.2 million from the spending plan this year, and then $35 million more next year.

"Next year is when everyone is going to feel it," superintendent Heather Fiorentino told the Gradebook.

Many of the budget cutting ideas floating around  (such as charging more for benefits) would require a negotiated deal with employees. So the administration and the United School Employees of Pasco have put together a committee to discuss the options they might present to the School Board.

Plans to survey all employees and seek input from the general public also are in the works.

Invitations to participate on the employee committee went out today. To see who's on the list, read on.
