Pasco begins major rezoning effort
Pasco school officials took the first steps today toward a major revision of the district’s west-county middle and high school attendance zones.
The effort, which could affect thousands of students, started with a committee assigned to draw boundaries for a new high school that is to open in 2010 on Chicago Avenue at State Road 52. Representatives from Hudson and River Ridge high schools submitted proposals (EEE_Recommendation 1, EEE_Recommendation 2, EEE_Recommendation 3) and discussed those along with a suggested map from the district planning department.
“That gets the ball rolling,” planning director Chris Williams told the Gradebook.
Once the High School EEE map is complete, it will go to a second committee charged with reviewing all high school zones west of US 41. A middle school review committee will meet separately to look at feeder patterns as they relate to the high school plans.
“I’d like to think we’d have it all done in the fall,” Williams said.
