Pasco board member Starkey considers state House run
Recently re-elected Pasco School Board member Kathryn Starkey tells the Gradebook she's "99.9 percent certain" she will run for State House District 45 in 2010, when incumbent Tom Anderson's term ends.
"I think that the things I work on are regional and statewide in nature," said Starkey, who spoke with several community and school district leaders on Tuesday and Wednesday morning about her intentions. "I have been encouraged by many that it probably would be a good platform for me."
Starkey, a vocal advocate for career academies, said she loves being on the School Board. But she said she has heard loud and clear the message former Rep. Joe Pickens sent the FSBA in December: "He said the best thing we could do for the state is to get school board members in Tallahassee."
In order to qualify, Starkey would have to resign her board seat. She said she plans make an announcement next week.
