Pasco County Schools superintendent takes a pay cut

Heatherf To answer some Gradebook readers who want to know, Pasco schools superintendent Heather Fiorentino has indeed taken a 2 percent pay cut this year.

In following newly established Florida law for elected superintendents, the School Board reduced Fiorentino's pay rate as recommended by the Legislative Committee on Intergovernmental Relations by $2,376. She now makes $134,401.

In 2008, Fiorentino earned $136,776.15.

Appointed superintendents do not face a similar mandate for pay cuts, although the Legislature did urge School Boards to reduce their top administrators' pay. In Hillsborough, superintendent MaryEllen Elia volunteered to reduce her $257,958 salary by 5 percent.
