Pasco Elementary School to get a new principal

Barbara Munz is calling it a career at Pasco Elementary School.

Her retirement means the Dade City school needs a new leader for the first time in more than 20 years.

Katie Lail is superintendent Heather Fiorentino's choice to take that role. Fiorentino recommended Lail, principal at Mary Giella Elementary since 2008, without ever officially posting the job for applicants. Her name goes to the School Board in early June, with a June 7 start date.

Lail has worked for the district as a teacher, guidance counselor and administrator since 1998. She has east Pasco connections, having served as assistant principal at West Zephyrhills Elementary before moving to Giella. She also lives in Zephyrhills.

If the move is approved, the district will then advertise for a new principal at Giella. San Antonio Elementary also still needs a new principal, following the April promotion of Vanessa Hilton to the district's director of curriculum and instruction post. Hilton has been shuttling between both jobs in the meantime.
