Pasco, Hernando education officials to talk about joint issues
Pasco-Hernando Community College president Katherine Johnson had an idea after watching the Pasco School Board and County Commission get together last year to hash out topics of mutual interest and shared responsibility: Why not do the same thing for regional education matters?
She contacted officials from the Hernando and Pasco school districts and proposed a joint leadership meeting to find areas where they might collaborate.
They're having their first session on Thursday.
Leaders from PHCC, Pasco and Hernando plan to talk about a wide range of subjects, such as faculty sharing, dual enrollment and college readiness, when they gather at the college's Spring Hill campus at 11 a.m. They don't expect any instant action, but rather the beginning of a conversation that could continue into the future.
"I'm hoping that it will create some dialogue to be able to work together on some things to benefit not only our taxpayers and residents, but also our students," Pasco board member Allen Altman said. "There's a lot of good that can come of this."
