Pasco rounds out high school principal list

March

Maria swanson The music has stopped and all Pasco County high schools finally have a principal in their chairs.

Wiregrass Ranch High assistant principal Maria Swanson won the last remaining opening at River Ridge High. Superintendent Heather Fiorentino made the call this morning, and Swanson is visiting the River Ridge staff this afternoon.

She'll take over permanently on Thursday.

"It's like coming home," Swanson, who began her career as a sub at River Ridge, told the Gradebook. "It's my community school. I've always felt a deep connection there."

River Ridge needed a new principal after Fiorentino transferred Jim Michaels to Mitchell High, effective today. Barring unforeseen circumstances, the district shouldn't need any more high school principals until the summer, when Zephyrhills High principal Gerri Painter is expected to retire.

The district also plans to open another new high school in Hudson in 2010.
