Pasco rounds out its principal list -- again

Steve Van Gorden 2006 Reins Yerkey
We thought Pasco finally had all its leadership spots set when Maria Swanson took the helm of River Ridge High a month ago. Then Gerri Painter quit at Zephyrhills High, and Leila Mizer announced she would leave Cox Elementary.

The shuffling began again. Now just one spot remains.

Steve Van Gorden, left, principal of Hudson Middle, has been tapped to lead Zephyrhills High beginning next week Tuesday. Van Gorden, also a Dade City commissioner, began teaching in Pasco 12 years ago and has been an administrator since 2000. His replacement has not been selected.

Yvonne Reins, center, principal of Sunray Elementary, will transfer into the Cox Elementary job beginning Monday. Reins has been an educator in New Mexico and Florida since 1978, moving to Pasco schools from Hillsborough in 2006.

Lee Anne Yerkey, right, assistant principal of Richey Elementary, gets her first principal job on an interim basis at Sunray Elementary beginning May 18. A teacher in Pasco since 1993, Yerkey is completing a Preparing New Principals Program, and when she completes it she will be eligible for certification as a principal.

The School Board approved the appointments today.
