Pasco School Board chair to seek reelection

Joanne Hurley, chairwoman of the Pasco County School Board for the past year, announced Thursday that she will seek a second term on the board.

"In the last three years, which have gone by extremely fast, the leadership team has done a great job of continuing to move student progress higher," Hurley said.

She wants to continue the the work of supporting students, staff and learning despite the difficult economic times.

"I see this as a time of great opportunity," Hurley said, listing many challenges she expects the district to face in the coming years. Those included expanding access to technology, improving aging schools and keeping students and teachers from feeling any added brunt of financial difficulties.

She said she announced her candidacy now to get a head start on campaigning, before the many candidates for several other offices hit the streets.

Another candidate for District 2, Bryan V. Williams of Land O'Lakes, also pre-filed for the seat this week. We are awaiting more information about Williams.
