Pasco School Board race is back to five candidates
Just a day after learning that businessman Chris Cooley had dropped his bid for the District 4 seat, the Gradebook has word that recent River Ridge High graduate Harold F. Hedrick II has filed papers signaling his intent to join the crowded field.
Hedrick, a 21-year-old University of Central Florida student, already has an active web site and a Facebook fan page. He writes that he "will offer a fresh perspective on how Pasco County schools can prepare its students to be competitive in higher learning. ... He hears the concerns of his former classmates, many of whom didn’t make it to college, as they struggle during this time of economic uncertainty. He knows not every student is college-bound and is eager to give these students a head start to success in this fast-paced 21st century global economy."
Other candidates in the race include pastor John Tracy, psychologist Steven Kanakis, retired court reporter Billie Kaleel and civic activist Alison Crumbley. Starkey plans to resign to run for Florida House District 45, where Rep. Tom Anderson is retiring.
