Pasco School Board race draws first entrant
It may be more than a year off, but the 2010 election for Pasco School Board District 3 already has attracted its first candidate.
Mary Scicchitano, an educator turned financial adviser, has filed papers signaling her intent to seek the seat currently held by three-term board member Cathi Martin.
Scicchitano, who also applied for the position when Martin briefly flirted with resigning, has attended many of the board's meetings lately, trying to boost her knowledge of the district along with her public profile. She notes her several degrees and certifications in education and argues she's best qualified for the job.
She's hardly likely to be alone in this race, though, as several people have shown an interest in the seat that has Martin looking vulnerable if she runs again. By the end of 2010, the Pasco School Board could have a decidedly different look with incumbents Frank Parker and Allen Altman also up for re-election (no announcements yet) and Kathryn Starkey planning her resignation to run for a state House seat. Stay tuned.
