Pasco school district builds up its video channel
For the past year, the Pasco County school district has slowly created a video channel on YouTube of school activities, employee training modules, and informational items relating to the district.
The latest installation, posted Monday, is an interview with former superintendent Tom Weightman about his time leading the district.
District communications director John Mann said the goal over time is to create an archive of material for the public to get a glimpse into the school system, and to collect a video history through conversations with officials who have made a difference for Pasco County. Mann, who has already interviewed other leaders including former assistant superintendent Mary Giella and former adviser Bob Anderson, said he hopes to add more of those videos going forward.
He credited Andy Dunn in the district's information technology department for building up the school-based videos. Dunn also runs the district Twitter account and is amping up the district's overall social media effort.
Several districts are making such efforts to get the good word out about their systems, unfiltered by other voices. What are your thoughts about such initiatives by school districts?
