Pasco schools offer 2011-12 student calendar
Unlike its neighbor to the south, the Pasco County School Board annually adopts an academic calendar that doesn't generate heat over holidays or religion.
This year looks to be a repeat.
Focusing mostly on educational matters, such as finishing the first semester before winter break and placing spring vacation so it doesn't interfere with the FCAT, a committee of distridt administrators, employees and parents has recommended a no-nonsense calendar for 2011-12.
Classes would begin for students on Aug. 22. The district would take a day off for Veterans Day, three days for Thanksgiving and end the first semester on Dec. 22. Kids would return to school on Jan. 10, 2012 -- that's a Tuesday to give the cafeterias a day to get fresh dairy and produce for lunches.
Spring break would be the week of April 2-6, graduations on June 1-3 and the end of classes for non-seniors on June 5.
It all seems fairly innocuous. We'll have to wait until Tuesday, when the School Board takes up the calendar, to see if anyone objects.
