Pasco shuffles elementary school administrators

12

July

Pasco County's summertime school leadership shuffle continued Tuesday morning even as interviews continued for other principal openings.

Superintendent Heather Fiorentino announced that, pending School Board approval, she would remove Jill Middleton as principal of F-rated Gulf Highlands Elementary and replace her with Kara Smucker, principal of A-rated Lake Myrtle Elementary School. Middleton will become an assistant principal at Schrader Elementary. Gulf Highlands this year became Pasco's first ever F elementary school.

Erika Tonello, who held the assistant principal post at Schrader, will move to a like job at Cypress Elementary. She will take the place of George Papaemanuel, who will become principal of Mary Giella Elementary. Papaemanuel had led Cypress on an interim basis after Fiorentino removed Deanna DeCubellis as principal earlier this year, but he was passed over for the permanent spot.

The shifts create a vacancy at Lake Myrtle, which will be advertised shortly. Shady Hills Elementary also still needs a principal, as Tom Barker recently was promoted to executive director of elementary education. Interviews for that job were ongoing Tuesday. See the full story here.
