Pasco teachers to join statewide protest of SB 736
As legislation to overhaul teacher evaluations, pay and contracts looks ready to speed through the Florida Legislature — the Senate recently released a substitute to SB 736 that's near identical to the bill that's heading to its first hearing in the House on Wednesday — teacher groups are gearing up to fight it.
The Florida Education Association announced its opposition to the current wording this morning. Soon after, the United School Employees of Pasco sent word that it would join the growing statewide protest of the bills that's planned for March 4.
The USEP plans to rally outside the local offices of lawmakers Sen. Mike Fasano, Rep. Will Weatherford and Rep. John Legg from 4-6 p.m. that day. The group is asking members and supporters to wear red and bring signs, urging the lawmakers to stand up for teachers and against the legislation.
From the flyer: "Let’s bring our message home to our legislators! Tell them we want REAL not RECKLESS Reform. Tell them to SAVE OUR SCHOOLS & Save our State!"
