Pasco third-graders hold steady on FCAT

Seventy-one percent of Pasco County third-graders passed the FCAT reading test this year, with the same percentage demonstrating grade-level proficiency on the math portion of the exam, too, the district reports.

Last year, 72 percent passed the reading section, which is used to help determine whether third graders may progress to fourth grade.

School districts received their local data this afternoon from the Florida Department of Education. The district and statewide details have not yet been released to the general public.

Pasco officials expressed particular satisfaction at the schools that showed strong growth in the levels of students attaining proficiency.

In reading, three Pasco elementary schools — Sunray, Seven Springs and Oakstead — saw the percentage of students at passing levels rise by 10 or more points. In math, two schools — Seven Springs and Cox — saw gains of 10 points or more.
