Pasco's Sunlake High School gets an interim principal

WalthallGary Walthall (shown), assistant principal at Sunlake High School in Land O'Lakes, will lead the school through the end of the year, Pasco County assistant superintendent Jim Davis told the Gradebook.

The appointment comes just days before Angie Stone departs to run the county's newest high school, which opens in the fall. It doesn't resolve the question over who will lead Sunlake for the long term, though.

"We are going to revisit Sunlake High School after the current school year," Davis said.

At that time, he said, the superintendent's staff will evaluate the leadership situation district-wide. Moore-Mickens Education Center principal Steve Cox is retiring, and other people also might retire, resign or request transfers.

"We want to hold off to look at the district in a bigger picture," Davis said, stressing that the decision does not reflect poorly on the pool of four applicants for the Sunlake job. "There may be some other moves. You never know."
