Pearson fines: $3 million and counting

The Florida Department of Education says Pearson owes it $3.025 million for the late delivery of the third-grade reading and math FCAT results and 10th grade retake results alone - which are the only results that are in.

A letter sent to Pearson this week says DOE expects payment of that amount within 14 days.

By our calculations, Pearson, as of today, owes another $10.89 million for late delivery of the FCAT 4-10 and science results.

The letter says the department has waived liquidated damages for the late writing results. We're not sure why, but there was discussion earlier about how much the company was liable given the state's decision to reduce the number of graders from two to one.
