Pinellas data offers snapshot of Janssen era
If you want to see how Pinellas fared academically in the recent past, trend data that's included as part of the district's updated draft strategic plan, attached below, offers a good snapshot.
The data, including FCAT results, AP results, grad rates, attendance rates and other indicators, was sent to Pinellas school board members last week. In many cases, it goes back three years – essentially covering the tenure of recently departed Superintendent Julie Janssen.
Most of the data isn’t "new." But some of it hasn’t surfaced publicly; it’s conveniently housed in one spot; and in many cases it offers a comparison with state averages.

Office of Research & Accountability completes draft version of Strategic Plan
Included with today’s update, please find a “living document” which Dr. Mortimer advises should be viewed as a starting point for observing how the district stands in relation to measures of the plan’s objectives. As you know, board members already have approved the district’s vision, mission, strategic directions and aspirational goals. These items are embedded in SB Policy 2105 Mission of the District and SB Policy 2110 Statement of District Strategic Directions. The plan also includes objectives and measures for each goal. Newly added material includes data for each measure – three years’ worth in most cases. Cells were left blank in cases where data are not available. Discussion at Monday’s joint School Board-Cabinet workshop generated a list of additional items that could be added at a later date:
• A plan for improving schools with a high percentage of struggling students
• A plan for a principal mentorship program
• A budget plan and process
• A communication plan and process
• A student assignment plan and process
• A professional development plan
• A succession plan for higher-level positions
• A plan to recruit and retain principals and assistant principals
Strategies to accomplish the Strategic Plan’s goals must be identified and an annual timeline for development of the plan must be established.
