Pinellas folks, mark your calendars!
Have questions about that big ole' student assignment proposal superintendent Julie Janssen is floating? You know the one: mandatory uniforms, expansion of fundamental seats, moving and adding IB programs and more.
Well, write them down and mark your calendars. The school district has set two dates for community forums on the topic: Oct. 12 at Countryside High School, 3000 State Road 580 in Clearwater, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Oct. 13 at Gibbs High School, 850 34th Street S in St. Petersburg, also 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
In the meantime, here are a few resources to help you navigate the numerous proposals: Two stories from the St. Petersburg Times, here and here. And Janssen's power point presentation, which she used to deliver the plan to the School Board last week during a workshop, is accessible from the district's web site, here, under "PCS News." We'd link it directly for you, but we're having problems opening it.
Many of the ideas could be in effect as soon as the 2011-12 school year. The School Board is expected to hear more details during a workshop Tuesday at 10 a.m. Then, they will hear the first reading of the plan during their Nov. 9 board meeting, also at 10 a.m. And they are expected to vote on a final proposal Dec. 7, 5 p.m.
