Pinellas high schools earn 7 A's; Gibbs moves from F to C

Seven of 16 traditional high schools in Pinellas earned A's this year, up from zero last year, while Gibbs High moved from an F to a C, according to results released by the school district this morning.

East Lake and Palm Harbor University high schools moved from B to A. Northeast, Osceola, Seminole and St. Petersburg high schools moved from C to A. Tarpon Springs High moved from D to A.

"We are so proud of the daily efforts of our high schools," Superintendent Julie Janssen wrote in an e-mail to principals this morning. "While we still have many improvements to make, today marks a defining moment in the improvement efforts of our school and school system."

As for the other Pinellas high schools, three earned B's (Clearwater, Countryside and Dunedin); two others earned C's (Lakewood and Pinellas Park); and three earned D's (Boca Ciega, Dixie Hollins and Largo).
