Pinellas, Hillsborough fall in district rankings

Both the Hillsborough and Pinellas school districts tumbled in district rankings this year, according to the school grades data released yesterday.

Pinellas is No. 49 among Florida's 67 school districts this year, down from No. 40 last year. It's No. 10 among the 12 biggest districts.

Hillsborough is No. 39 overall, down from No. 26. It's No. 9 among the Big 12.

The rankings don't look better over the long term.

In 2006, Pinellas was No. 30 overall and No. 7 among the Big 12, while Hillsborough was No. 24 and No. 5, respectively.

Pasco is No. 35 overall this year, and No. 7 among the 12 biggest. It was No. 34 last year.

Hernando is No. 38, down from No. 23 last year.
