Pinellas hires another former Times staffer for communications

Rebuilding continues in the Pinellas school district communications office with two new hires - including another with St. Petersburg Times ties - and two more on the way. Pending school board approval, Debbie Wolfe is the new assistant director of  strategic communications and Melanie Marquez is the new public information officer.

Wolfe, 56, was the technology training editor at the St. Petersburg Times when she  was laid off in 2008. She began work for the district Dec. 16. She'll make $69,832 a year.

(Donna Winchester, the director of strategic communications, is also a former Times staffer. She was an education reporter with the paper when she was hired by the district in November 2009.)

Marquez, 29, is the assistant director for news & information for the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. She is also a former newspaper reporter, having worked at the Bradenton Herald before going to USFSP. She'll start Feb. 1. She'll make $58,781 a year.

The communications office is also close to hiring two new communications specialists, Winchester said. They'll make $43,206 each, she said.

Background on the changes here. Job descriptions for the assistant director, PIO and communications specialist positions attached below.
