Pinellas names "chief turnaround officer"
Sorry for bringing this to you late, but the Pinellas school board on Tuesday created a new administrative position to oversee some of the district's most struggling schools, including the four high schools under intense state oversight.
The new "chief turnaround officer" will be Rita Vasquez, previously the district's director of high schools. She'll be paid $86,368 (she made $69,590 previously), with half of that money coming from the district and half from a school improvement grant.
The vote to create the position was 6-1, with chair Janet Clark dissenting.
You can read more about the position in the Sept. 14 board agenda packet, beginning on page 74.
