Pinellas parents apply in droves for fundamental schools (again)
Pinellas parents put in 9,395 applications for fundamental schools this year, with 44 percent of them listing fundamental schools as their top choice, according to school district figures.
That's up from last year's total of 8,450 applications for fundamental slots.
Like last year, many parents selected several fundamental schools when they applied so the total number is in some ways misleading. But as far as we know, there are still about 800 truly open slots - which likely means even more frustration this year once the dust clears from the program acceptance period, which runs from March 14-20.
You can see the application numbers, broken down by program and grade level, in the attachments below. There's one each for elementary, middle and high school programs.
We asked the district for the number of slots for each program (not just fundamentals), but have not received that yet. When we do, we'll add to the post.
In the meantime, this post from last year includes the number of kindergarten slots at the fundamental elementary schools.
