Pinellas parents file lawsuit over school bus accident
The parents of five Pinellas students are suing the School Board over injuries allegedly sustained in a September 2008 bus accident in Tarpon Springs. Filed in Pinellas circuit court last month, the suit says all five students -- now 16, 16, 14, 13 and 12 -- suffered "serious and permanent bodily injuries, great physical pain and mental anguish, severe and substantial emotional distress and loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life."
According to a Tarpon Springs Police report, there was no visible damage to either the bus or the car it ran into near North Florida Avenue and Poinsettia Avenue. Twenty-six of 28 students on board suffered no injuries, it says, including four of those listed in the lawsuit. One suffered "possible injuries" and another -- also listed in the suit -- suffered "non-incapacitating injuries," it says.
The bus driver, Charles Hitchcock, was charged with careless driving.
