Pinellas school board approves contracts with FPSU, PBA
The Pinellas County School Board has settled contracts with its last two union groups, the SEIU/Florida Public Services Union and the Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association, Inc.
Under the agreements, employees in both groups will receive, on average, a 1.5 percent raise. (Similar to what the teachers union and the support professionals union agreed to earlier this year.) The raises start Nov. 1.
The union members also will see the same health insurance changes that are going into effect for teachers and other employees. Health insurance changes are helping to pay for employee raises.
Board members voted unanimously Tuesday to approve both contracts.
The FPSU ratified its contract earlier this week, with 400 yes votes and 28 no votes, said Rick Brant, a union representative. The PBA is expected to vote on its contract today. (If they vote it down the contract won't be settled, despite the board's vote.)
