Pinellas school board approves Grego's contract
Ok, now it's official.
The Pinellas County School Board approved unanimously a contract today for new superintendent Mike Grego. Chairwoman Robin Wikle, who helped negotiate the contract, said she was "very, very happy" to present the agreement to the board. Grego's first day is Wednesday. (See our story about Grego's contract here.)
Superintendent John Stewart has his last day today. He asked that board members let him leave quietly, without a lot of accolades at the meeting or any kind of party. Board members mostly followed his wishes. A few made public comments at the board meeting today.
Board member Linda Lerner said she agreed with Stewart about 95 percent of the time and "that's pretty good for me." Board member Glenton Gilzean thanked Stewart for his service and said, "Thank you for being my favorite superintendent - well, you're my only superintendent."
Board member Peggy O'Shea said it had been an honor to work with Stewart. Board member Terry Krassner said Stewart had improved communications, built trust and eliminated fear in the district.
