Pinellas school board opens negotiations with new superintendent
It's official. Almost.
The Pinellas County School Board voted unanimously tonight to open formal contract negotiations with Mike Grego, its top pick for superintendent. Board chairwoman Robin Wikle and board attorney David Koperski will negotiate with Grego.
It's still possible that talks could break down, but it appears unlikely. Grego already has been working with superintendent John Stewart on the transition. Board members expect to vote on the contract later this month. It's still not clear when Grego would officially start and Stewart would step down.
Grego was at the meeting for the vote, along with his wife and multiple members of his extended family.
Board member Linda Lerner said she hoped Wikle and Koperski would negotiate with Grego the "salary he deserves" based on his "impressive" characteristics and resume.
