Pinellas teachers union upset with how impasse was announced
Brrrr. Are labor relations in Pinellas getting frosty or what? Pinellas Classroom Teachers Association executive director Marshall Ogletree should not be finding out about the district’s impasse declaration from a St. Petersburg Times reporter, PCTA president Kim Black writes in this July 21 letter to superintendent Julie Janssen.
While a declaration of impasse is not shocking, it is the way it was done that is disconcerting. The PCTA-PCSB relationship has been very positive since the beginning of collective bargaining in 1974. To learn from a reporter that you have declared impasse is not what I consider "quality" communications. This follows a very similar pattern in the impasse over middle school scheduling exactly six months ago.
