Pinellas voters return Clark to School Board, drop Gilzean
In the end, it wasn't even close.
Pinellas voters overwhelmingly returned Janet Clark to the School Board, giving her 65.6 percent of the vote to Elliott Stern's 34.4 percent. They also ousted Glenton Gilzean, who was appointed to the board by Gov. Rick Scott after the death of Lew Williams. Gilzean didn't even take one quarter of the vote against former St. Petersburg council member Rene Flowers, who won 77 percent of the vote.
The district also staved off some potential budget cuts with the voters' renewal of a local property tax that has supported such things as teacher salaries. 63 percent of the ballots cast favored the tax extension, with just 37 percent opposed.
