Pinellas will do climate survey after all

This year's climate survey isn't dead after all. A week after the Pinellas school district told the Gradebook it wasn't doing an annual climate survey this year -- because it needed to be revised -- the district sent e-mails to employees Friday afternoon saying they are doing one.

"You responses have provided valuable feedback in the past and will continue to present us with beneficial information to improve the learning and teaching environment in Pinellas County Schools," the e-mail said.

The e-mail included a link to the survey. It's not clear when responses are due, or when they'll be compiled. It's also not clear why the district changed its mind. We've asked, and when we hear back, we'll let you know.

UPDATE at 12:58 p.m.: District spokeswoman Andrea Zahn said by e-mail that the research and accountability department had hoped to find an improved survey instrument more aligned to strategic initiatives, but concluded there was not enough time to do that. So, it revised the existing survey by clarifying, deleting and/or changing some questions, and adding more comment sections. She said there is no specific deadline to respond. She said the department will monitor the number of responses and send reminders before closing the process.
