Prayer bill not dead yet in Florida Legislature
It wasn't two weeks ago that Florida Rep. Charles Van Zant didn't give his school prayer bill a prayer of passage.
"I've been trying, but so far no one will agenda the bill," Van Zant, a Palatka Republican, told the Sun-Sentinel.
That's about to change. The Senate version of the bill, which passed the full body on a 31-8 vote after contentious debate, has landed on the House Education Pre-K-12 Committee's Monday agenda for a hearing.
Van Zant told the Sun-Sentinel that House leaders had constitutional concerns about the legislation, which hasn't passed despite several years of trying. Wonder if they think the same of the Senate bill, which would allow organized student-led prayer at school events.
