Read Florida's plan for Race to the Top
Forty states and the District of Columbia have applied to secure a piece of the $4.35 billion Race to the Top education reform grant. Several of them aren't releasing their applications publicly, with some arguing that the information is competitive and shouldn't be revealed.
Speculation is that some of those keeping their documents secret have some offbeat stuff in there that probably is not exactly what the Obama administration has in mind for its reform initiative.
Florida is not in that boat. Commissioner Eric J. Smith has expressed confidence in the state's plans to reporters inside and outside the state. And the department posted its application online almost immediately after it mailed it in.
