Rep. Legg: SB 6 'simply defines primarily'

Introducing the hotly debated SB 6 / HB 7189 to the House Education Policy Council, sponsor Rep. John Legg stated that the legislation isn't quite so radical as some critics suggest.

He pointed to the area of using student tests to evaluate teachers as an example.

Legg noted that state law has required since 1999 that the evaluation of teachers be based "primarily" on data and improvement indicators as measured by state and local student assessments.

"The bill simply defines 'primarily' as 50 percent or more," Legg said.

His point of reference? Florida Statute 1012.34. Are you watching?
