Rep. Long to hold town hall meeting on pre-kindergarten

Long Rep. Janet Long, D-Seminole, is holding a town hall meeting in Seminole Tuesday on improving Florida's pre-kindergarten program. Last spring, Long co-sponsored a bill that would have required higher degrees for pre-K teachers, but it died in committee.

Education reform in Florida "depends on our ability to prepare children for a life-long foundation of learning," she said in a press release. "We must get this right. It is not effective public policy to invest nearly 400-million dollars in pre-kindergarten only to spend the same amount or more remediating third graders who have educational problems that could have been prevented."

The meeting will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Digitorium, on the Seminole campus of St. Petersburg College.
