Report: Budget deal cuts district fee for charter school oversight

Sorry we appear to have missed this, but our friends at Florida News Service report an interesting last-minute deal in this week's legislative budget compromise that would cut the fee districts receive for overseeing some charter schools.

The change -- from the current five percent to just two percent -- applies to those schools identified as "high-performing" under the charter expansion bill approved this spring.

"Two percent's more than adequate to pay for the services that are given from school districts to charter schools," budget chief Sen. J.D. Alexander, R-Lake Wales, told the news service.

Return to to see whether the budget, with or without that change, gets approved later tonight as scheduled.
