The latest Diplomas Count report from Education Week, out this morning, has bad news and good news for Florida.
The bad: Florida still ranks among the states with the worst graduation rates. According to the latest report, which looks at 2006-07 data, Florida comes in at No. 44 with a 62.1 rate. That's ahead of Nevada, New Mexico, South Carolina, Louisiana, Georgia and North Carolina, but behind Alabama and Mississippi.
The good: Between 1997 and 2007, Florida's rate improved 7.8 percentage points. That's fifth-most in the country, behind Tennessee (which led with a 13.2 percentage point gain), New York, New Hampshire and Arizona.
