Report: Jeb Bush 'overselling' Florida education reforms
Policy makers beware: Jeb Bush's cocktail of education reforms is more like snake oil, suggests a University of Colorado researcher who put together this report released today by the National Education Policy Center. William Mathis says there is reason to doubt that Florida's national test score gains are really that impressive, and that the reforms Bush highlights as he barnstorms the country - school grades, vouchers, etc. - are what led to them.
Bush "offers no evidence that the purported test score gains were caused by the recommended reforms. Other viable explanations, such as a major investment in class-size reduction and a statewide reading program, receive no or little attention," Mathis writes. "Moreover, the presentation ignores less favorable findings, while evidence showing limited or negative effects of the proposed strategies is omitted." (Image from online-social-networking.com)
