Results from the second Thurgood survey on buses, start times
As today's story noted, the Pinellas County School Board voted last night - after a long, winding, confusing debate - to change the bell times at Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School. Three parents passionately spoke against the change, but the board ultimately voted 5-2 to support it, with members Terry Krassner and Lew Williams voting no
Along the way, Superintendent Julie Janssen cited the results of the second survey sent to parents this week and again said the number who needed busing was "compelling." Here are the numbers, as relayed by deputy superintendent Jim Madden:
The question asked was, ' Would you provide transportation for your child to attend Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School next year (2011-2012) in order for the start time to stay the same as the current time (7:20-2:05)?
806 surveys were hand delivered
650 or 81 % were returned
475 or 73% answered 'yes'
175 or 27% answered 'no'
