School board candidates, welcome to Bell Shoals
So the teachers union in Hillsborough ordered a re-do of some school board candidate screenings, to preserve the integrity of their endorsement process. But, without realizing it, they scheduled the new screenings for July 12, when Bell Shoals Baptist Church will have its big candidate forum.
The event is, by some descriptions, the gold standard of candidate forums, with some 60 candidates and 850 guests.
But to get a platform, you have to answer some very specific questions about values that some consider personal -- abortion and gay rights, among them.
The questionnaire is attached. Not all candidates filled it out. In fact, some will attend the event and simply mix with the crowd instead of speaking.
Others, of course, will be at the union hall, trying to sew up that endorsement.
