School board will get update on Grego's contract negotiations

School board members are expected to hear an update Tuesday afternoon about the status of contract negotiations between the Pinellas County School District and Mike Grego, the board's top pick for superintendent.

The board voted unanimously last week to start formal negotiations with Grego. It hopes to vote on a contract at next week's regular school board meeting. It seems likely, unless talks break down, that Grego will start his new job soon. He's already been taking meetings around the district and he brought multiple family members to last week's board meeting.

Superintendent John Stewart, who's held the job on an interim basis, also has said he's willing to go at any time.

Board members are scheduled to get the update at 3 p.m. during their workshop meeting. That time could change, depending on how long other discussions go. The workshop starts at 9 a.m. at district headquarters in Largo.
