School grades out; three F elementaries each in Pinellas, Hillsborough
The Pinellas and Hillsborough school districts revealed this morning that they each have three F-graded elementary schools, even as the head of the Florida superintendents association suggested that the FCAT scores behind those grades will be challenged in court.
Bill Montford, who heads the Florida Association of District School Superintendents, said he did not expect superintendents to legally challenge the results, which they have vigorously done through other means after dozens of districts reported statistical anomalies. But given what's at stake, he expected that another party will.
"I would be surprised if someone doesn't take the option of seeking some legal remedy," Montford told The Gradebook. "I would be real surprised if someone does not step up on behalf of the students of Florida and say, 'We can't stop here, we have to move forward until we can be assured that the data … is accurate."
