School grades stay the same
Nearly 60 Tampa Bay area schools appealed their grades or AYP status to the Florida Department of Education this year, but none got a change for the better, according to appeal results released by DOE late today.
Thirty-four schools in Hillsborough, 22 in Manatee and one in Hernando requested changes. But only Mt. Pleasant Middle School in Hillsborough saw a difference, and that was from an "incomplete" on its AYP status to a "no."
This year's appeals got a little more attention than usual. Hillsborough filed more appeals than any other district. And Manatee officials raised fears that state officials may have messed up school grades around Tampa Bay and beyond.
