School zone controversy not likely for Pasco
Word that new attendance boundaries were on tap for middle and high schools serving Wesley Chapel initially drew concern from some subdivision residents who worried they'd be drawn out of their preferred school.
In the months since, complaints have been muted — particularly after the state issued high school grades that suggested Wiregrass Ranch and Wesley Chapel stood on equal footing (both B's). Still, there's some mild rumbling that a few parents might show up tonight to tell the Pasco County School Board exactly what they think of the proposed new maps.
If the board members are to make any changes, they're likely to do so tonight, when they take up the recommendation on first reading. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. So far, the biggest concern we've heard is relating to the increasing level of low-income students at Pasco Middle School, and whether the school will get enough resources to handle the shift.
The final approval for the zones is scheduled for Jan. 18.
